evaluation..

I'm in the last few processes of completing my evaluation, although I've still got to do things like a voice note and another couple of powerpoint presentations as well as some more written evaluation I think I so far that it's going well.

double page spread...

(I actually completed my double page spread on Wednesday 29th January. The posts are being backdated because I didn't have access to my files)

I've finished my double page spread today. It hasn't actually taken me as long as I thought it would, so I'm pleasantly surprised by this. Considering that it was only yesterday that I started my double page spread, I'm happy that I've finished it now.

I originally started out with a quote that I had to include in the article, but instead I decided to include a masthead and subtitle.

I thought that this would tie in with the article that I've included on the front page.

As for the image I've got is spreading across the two pages but it takes up the majority of the space on the left and also has enough space to the right that I could write the article.

My finished product of the double page spread will go on the blog along with the cover page and contents once it's completely finished.

Working with the image at the side means that I know exactly how much space I have to play with and I'm thinking of including 3 columns on the page instead of the original 2 I had the idea of doing.

Week beginning 27/01/2014

(I'm putting up my progress today as I didn't have access to my work over the weekend to upload.)

I've been adding to the front page that I created last week.
I've added another article to the left of the magazine and chose a different font. Not including the title, there should be just 2 fonts, which I've kept in mind.

I've used fonts from the internet rather than the ones provided on Photoshop because they stand out more, and the front page is supposed to stand out from the other magazines on the shelf.

I've picked faults in the front page as the puffs running down the left side of the page are too big and are almost the same size as the article. So to improve this I may need to make it smaller.

I also made the main feature of Sabrina the largest piece of text apart from the masthead as is the norm. But I've slanted it to make it a little bit different, in accordance to the indie style of the magazine.

I've also encountered the problem of space, as the central image is rather large, trying to fit everything around is proving difficult. In order to include more articles in the magazine, I might need to make the article on the right side smaller. In other music magazines the articles are actually quite small, but most of those that I've looked at are quite mainstream and as this is an indie magazine I might decide to have it break the norms and conventions of a music magazine to make it a little bit different.

Progress...

So far I've been making up my magazine front page. I've experimented with different fonts and even doubled up words to make them stand out against the background.

Changing the image to black and white is an example of how I've manipulated the image and also touched it up with the spot healing tool.

The title and main article on the page I've doubled up the words in different colours to make it stand out. As in my questionnaire a lot more females listened to rock than males, and seeing as my magazine is for a female audience I've added a rock type title and main article font, to make my magazine more of a indie rock, than just indie.

This title is the one I decided to have and it worked pretty well with the image I choose in the end. This is the start of the front page I'm making along with the title as seen as above, I choose to use the same title and put it in white behind to emphasise.

Magazine shoot

Yesterday I got my model and had them over to take some pictures.
The shoot wasn't the best but I think I got the shots that I wanted. I've started to edit them and create my title but there are images that I shall be including on my post as well as the actual cover progress that I've been doing.

these are just 3 images that I took on the shoot in order to start making my front cover, contents and double page spread.
I choose the makeup and dress of the model in order to fit the indie style of the magazine.

Today's lesson I'm aiming to produce several different magazine covers with different title fonts to see which one I like best.

I've gone on different websites and picked fonts that I like and stand out against the black and white picture. I've found that having a black and white image and then changing the title to a bright colour would make the magazine stand out more. I'm going to try and add some effects to the title and other important articles so that they stand out as well.

I've become very good at using the magic wand tool when adding the titles in to the page as there is a lot of white space around that I needed to edit out and therefore have gotten quicker at editing them down

Today's lesson I've been making a front page for the music magazine using the best test shot from the shoot.

I've also been looking at different fonts to have as the title as its going to be the signature of the page and the entire magazine therefore needs to be important.

This is the title that I've decided to have, I edited it on the website and changed the colour for the particular front page that I've been designing. For other covers that I might mock up I'll probably change the colour so that it fits into red or perhaps a black.

I've shown the page to other people and they have given me advice to change the font colour so that it stands out. The page doesn't stand out so much, with the text colour, so I have to change it to white or the colour of the title, in a different shade of purple.

I've also got the fonts page to look at and have other people evaluate to see which type of font that they like.
